Whimsical and mythical is Loro Piana's spirit animal Bumba at The Alchemy Of Cashmere, the pop-ups that toured the Asian metropolises Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo in 2019.
In Tokyo, at The Stage of the Isetan Shinjuku department store, the design sets these playful Bumbas into a multi-dimensional space. Surrounded by colourful large-scale cashmere spools, visitors are taken through the fascinating and magical world of cashmere, to discover the fall-winter collection and selected exclusive colourful capsule items.
Wool spools - the basis of fabrics and textiles - are protagonists in this design, as the concept plays on turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. The pop-up is a physical manifestation of Loro Piana's intricate relationship with cashmere and the Bumbas are a tribute to the capra hircus goats from which the fine cashmere is sourced - a rare and unique gift from nature.
